Conflict Resolutions

Did Paris Hilton keep her 2007 New Year's promises? Radar checks in with celebrities bent on self-improvement

Celebs resolved to turn their lives around in 2007. Instead, many crashed and burned. Experts say that 25 percent of resolutions don't make it past January 8. When the resolver is a celebrity whose very existence is marked by an inability to schedule oneself, we're willing to bet those resolutions have gone the way of Danny Bonaduce's career by 6 a.m. on January 1, when Hyde finally shoos them out and TMZ's videographers head back to the Marriott with full reels. As the new year begins, and stars begin to work off their hangovers, Radar looks back at the most hopeful 2007 New Year's resolutions and where those optimists are today. Court, jail, and therapy are good guesses.

Britney Spears, train wreck

2007 Resolution: "Stop biting my nails. Just to take care of me more."

The Verdict: At this point, Britney needs absolution. One can only assume that her pledge to "take care of me more" only meant that she would be taking care of her kids less. Or maybe by "take care," she meant "beg law enforcement to give me three hots and a cot" by beating cars with umbrellas, sideswiping-and-running, or shoplifting lighters. In retrospect, she seemed a lot better taken care of with fired manager Larry Rudolph and a giant python wrapped around her neck. Especially since she passed out in a Vegas nightclub hours after making the resolution (but before collecting the $300,000 she was reportedly paid to be there). At this point we can only guess what will finally bring her to rock bottom: Federline's lawyers, J.R. Rotem, or the Hamburgler. Wonder how that nail-biting thing went, though.

2007 Resolution: "My New Year's resolution is to make some money and to stay out of jail. I'm not gonna spend any money on bail bonds or lawyers this year."

The Verdict: Trick Daddy must've made this resolution with his summer 2006 arrest for throwing punches at a shopping mall in mind. Or maybe he was looking back to 2003, when he was arrested for possession of marijuana and cocaine at a high school football game, and was on house arrest for a separate weapons charge. But no luck avoiding bail bondsmen in 2007. He was arrested in September after a brawl at a Miami strip club, and then, to drop a truly thug mugshot, declined to wash the blood off his face.
