One Phone, Two Phone, Three Phone, Go Home, Daily News Tells Suspended Editor

old_phonefresh.jpg
Early in the week, we heard that the Daily News had suspended political editor Ian Bishop over the weekend for throwing a total shitfit at the office. Bishop also threw a telephone, according to the New York Post, at the office of the managing editor of news, Stuart Marques. See, now, we heard Bishop threw three phones. One went through the window of his office (messy!), a second into the newsroom, "almost hitting a hapless intern," according to a source. A third phone was reportedly also launched, destination unknown. It seems Bishop was engaged in a rather robust discussion (aka "a screaming match") at the time with his boss, Bill Goldschlag, out in Denver. Bishop was asked to leave not only the newsroom, but that fair city as well, when he later showed up to assist with convention coverage. A fellow journo caught sight of Bishop at the airport, wearing "weird plaid pants," which couldn't have helped matters. (Are there plaid pants that aren't weird?)

Anyway, as for the case of the flying phones, we didn't think much of the information at the time because frankly, we've had a few things leveled at our heads by the aforementioned News editor Stu Marques and we're pretty sure had he been around at the time he'd have caught the phone, decked Bishop with it, told him not to be such a godawful jackass and that would have been the end of it. But you know, newsrooms have protocol now and whatnot, so Bishop's out for two weeks. Striving j-school students, take heed! In any newsroom worth its salt, you ought always to be on the lookout for flying projectiles. Class dismissed, for chrissakes.
