Patrick Dempsey Smells Like Avon, Has-Been Blooming

One day—and it's not going to be very long from now—when we chronicle the untimely demise of Patrick Dempsey's career, this will probably be near the top of the list: Earlier in the week, Avon announced the debut of a new signature men's fragrance created with the television doctor. Dempsey made a multi-year deal with the pink Cadillac cosmetics company back in May, but now things are really starting to smell.

The fragrance is called Unscripted and uses the tagline "Follow Your Passion." It will launch this November, just in time for you to drop $32 if you lack imagination but still need a Christmas gift for that special guy in your life. Dempsey says "Unscripted is about loving what you do and doing it in your own unique way." It's also probably about making some extra cash.

Unscripted has a "Woody Green scent that expresses the freedom of the open road with fresh, aromatic cardamom and invigorating cracked black peppercorn. At the heart, a sensual mix of fig and crisp lavender enrich the experience with a warm, sophisticated texture. The drydown reveals an unusual twist—a bold blend of exclusive leatherwood and patchouli heart wrapped in earthy vetiver and rich musk for an authentic, adventurous finish.
Yeah, that's all straight from the press release. We thought about it paraphrasing, but really we had to share that with you as is.

If we were Dempsey's manager, we'd wonder whether this cheap cologne was really the best follow-up to such amazing films as Freedom Writers and Made of Honor. We're also a bit worried because Dempsey doesn't have any projects listed in development on imdbpro, and the Dr. McDreamy gig can only go on so long. Maybe he's been too busy perfecting those woody notes.

"We are so excited to offer consumers around the world a glimpse into Patrick's passion for life through this new premium fragrance," says Avon's Global President, "Patrick is one of the most respected, talented and successful actors of our generation." Really? We just thought he was that guy who played that dorky kid in 80s movies who then resurfaced decades later with much better hair on a hit hospital dramedy only to squander it all on cheesy endorsements and cheesier movies. But maybe that says something more about the actors of our generation. Or us.

Avon doesn't give out pink Cadillacs, that would be Mary Kay.

What planet are you on? Made of Honor may well qualify as a cheesy movie but Freedom Writers, Enchanted, Iron Jawed Angels and Sweet Home Alabama were not.. He was just listed on Forbes 100 most powerful celebs and as to Avon, Reese Witherspoon is also connected to Avon and an Ungaro scent . Is she also on the way out? PD is the current face of Versace and how cheesy is that?

Well that had to be written by some stupid guy that doesn't realize how many women would do anything to have their "significant others" smell like Patrick Dempsey.

Yes, Sweet Home Alabama was quite a cinematic achievement. Being the face of too many things (Versace, Avon, etc) without having an interesting body of work as an actor does actually meet my definition of cheesy.

But I was totally wrong about those pink caddies.

He is only the face of Versace (not cheesy in any sense), he is one of a growing list of celebs to have a signature scent with Avon. so who are the etc's? His career was resurrected with Grey's Anatomy and is only free to do one movie a year. In that time frame he has done Freedom Writers, Enchanted and Made of Honor. FYI MOH has grossed over 100 million globally. There are a lot of actors out there with great careers that lack an interesting body of work. Not everyone can be a Daniel Day Lewis so tell me why Patrick's career is going into demise?

Are folks taking the P.D. a little to seriously? I thought the pink caddies belonged to Mary Kaye?
You keep writting Honey! No need for accuracy, just keep us laughing. (I am still not buying AVON, no matter who it smells like!
