But there is a deeper, darker side to Janka that he didn't necessarily share with the middle-aged housewives who comprise the Dr. Phil audience—but that he did share with a writer from Psychology Today (tagline: "Here to Help") in a December 2007 profile.
In the story, Janka recounts how his parents got divorced when he was five-years-old—he describes his dad as "quite a gigolo"—and says that he was a late bloomer who had braces until he was in 17 and didn't lose his virginity until college. The Psychology Today writer makes the argument that beneath their cocky exteriors, Casanovas like Janka are just sad little men who are "insecure about their lovability."
The best part, though, is that Janka actually had a legitimate girlfriend at the time.
Says Paul on life off the market: "I used to be kind of an asshole, very unyielding." Now, though, "the warmth and support and love of my girlfriend easily outweigh the titillation of the hunt." If only love had lasted!
